My father was a hobbyist photographer in Nigeria in the 1970s.
He photographed weddings, family gatherings, and everyday life long before cameras were common around him. Without realizing it, I picked that up too. What started as a hobby while I studied Systems Engineering at university slowly became an obsession. I carried a camera everywhere.
Growing up, I always wondered why there were so few photographs of me as a child. Somewhere along the way, my father had stopped shooting. Life moved on. Then, while I was in university, he passed away. After his death, I went searching for photographs of my childhood and found almost nothing. Very few images of my family. Very few memories preserved. That changed me forever.
I started JOPStudios because I never wanted other people to feel that loss.
